Free / What is it?What does it exactly do? The isItAlive daemon running on our monitoring server will periodically connect to the server that you want monitored. Upon connecting the daemon searches the text retuned by your server for a keyword. If the connection fails, or the expected keyword was not found, the monitoring daemon will send you an email, informing you of the outage. What kinds of servers can it monitor? Currently monitoring is only available for HTTP servers. Soon we will add capability to monitor any arbitrary port. Whats the deal with the Keyword? Most existing scripts and web-applications return different pages and messages for success and failure, so the keyword feature allows you to monitor your web-applications in addition to monitoring your webserver. The idea is that scripts and web applications running all over the web return different pages for success and error messages, What does it cost? It is free to use. We wanted to build a tool to
test our SOAP
capabilities and also a tool that would monitor
our and our customers servers, so we built it for
ourselves. And now that we had it for ourselves,
we decided to let general users try it Technology behind the system... The monitoring server daemon and databases runs on a dedicated server in our office (behind the firewall). The frontend user interface is running on our webservers hosted at a datacenter. The User Interface communicates with the monitoring server using the SOAP interface exposed by the monitoring server. The User Interface does not store any information with itself, all information is stored at the monitoring server end. You can also offer this service as if it were your own! Using our SOAP API, you can build a custom user interface that will connect to our monitoring server.
